What You'll Get

All plant orders are packaged and shipped in the following manner:

  1. Plant is 12"-36" tall with roots
  2. Packaged bare rooted with moist sphagnum moss and wrapped in shrink wrap
  3. Shipped via UPS same day the plant is packaged

What You'll Need

Materials to have ready upon receipt of your plant shipment:

  1. Plastic nursery pots
  2. Sharp garden pruning clippers
  3. Clean, well drained soil: pH 5.5 to 6.5 (example: Pro-mix Bx, Metro Mix, SOGE Mix, etc.)
  4. Plant mister (e.g. household spray bottle) with water "suitable for drinking"
  5. Warm, Shaded (40 to 60%) location, protected from wind.

The leaves of this plant taste like spinach with a stronger flavor. Young and tender leaves must be boiled and can be used as a replacement in dishes like spinach soup and spinach dip. Research by Purdue University, Department of Horticulture shows that the chaya leaves are quite nutritious and seem to show possible antidiabetic properties.
